With today’s announcement by the DOT that new customer service rules are now in place (including one that forces airlines to refund bag fees if they lose your luggage and an extension of the 3-hour tarmac delay rule now applying to international carriers), Airfarewatchdog’s George Hobica weighs in: 1. Refund of bag fees if luggage is lost This is an absolute no brainer and too bad the airlines had to be regulated into doing this. Alaska Airlines’ Baggage Service Guarantee
The Alaska Airlines baggage fee went into effect. It is like the airline says “baggage service guarantee” for a major carrier. The baggage fee is for the first bag and for the second bag. It does not apply on flights within the state. The guarantee will works this way: After the plane parks at the gate, your bag should show up in 25 minutes. If your bag doesn’t show up in 25 minutes, the airline will give you a discount on a future flight or 2,500 bonus miles. Question: Low air fare prices and bad air travel service? Do you see a connection here? As a pilot, all I ever heard on flights was how terrible the service was, how lazy/grumpy/tired flight attendants were, and how air travel quality, in general, has taken a literal nose dive. If I had a nickel for every time I’ve heard a passenger complain, “Air travel isn’t what it used to be! It used to be an elegant way to travel.
