Guernsey Holidays – Beaches
Locals acknowledge 30 bays around the island. There are others they keep to themselves. The south coast is undoubtedly Guernsey’s finest’ riddled with private coves and stunning, secluded beaches – hard to find and even harder to invade. The free book- let “What’s On in Guernsey”, available from hotel lobbies or the Tourist Office, provides an invaluable guide for windy days, detailing which bays are sheltered according to wind direction. There is a machine showing wind direction in the window of the St Peter Port Tourist Office.
Fermain Bay, east coast
Popular pebbly beach with sand at half-tide. Go there by launch from Victoria Marina, St Peter Port. Journey takes about 15 minutes. Boatman is an expert on local history; his grandmother
used to attend Victor Hugo’s Christmas parties.
Cobo Bay, west coast
Good for children and great for sunsets. Shores are strewn with rust-colored boulders which reflect the sun and turn the sea into one huge rosy bath.
